Welcome to the PTO Web Page

The role of the PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) is to foster better communications and to establish a means for coordinated activities on the part of the total school community. We are responsible for maintaining good communications between the home and school, for providing a vehicle through which parents can provide services to the school (i.e., volunteers and fund-raising).

Board Meetings

The PTO board meets the 1st Tuesday of every month at 7:00 in the School Library.  If you have a concern that you would like to address to the Board, please contact a board member in advance to put your concern on the agenda.

Fundraising

Fundraising is one of the main focuses of the PTO.  The funds that we raise go directly back into the school to pay for expenses including technology for classrooms, related arts, library, sound systems, and a mobile lab.  Fundraising also supports school activities such as the 8th grade graduation breakfast and an 8th grade scholarship program, teacher bonuses and staff Christmas gifts, a new parent welcome night, student and staff appreciation events during Catholic Schools Week, and our Honors celebration, as well as funding for special projects for the teachers and special needs that arise for the school.  All of the PTO fundraising efforts help with keeping tuition and book bill rates reasonable.

Without the dedication and hard work of parent volunteers none of this would be possible.  It is only with the continued support of our parent and students that we will continue to make St. Stephen Martyr School an even better place for our children to prosper and grow.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

SANTA SHOP
Chairperson: Wendy Gerhard (wgerhard@ssmartyr.org)
This is a non-profit one-day Christmas shop that provides inexpensive gifts for students to purchase.  Volunteers are needed to assist students through the shop, with special “helper moms” for the youngest children, grades K-3.  Time commitment is as long as volunteers can stay.

ROOM PARENT COORDINATOR

)
The room parent coordinator coordinates each grade’s room parent(s) for assisting with holiday parties and covering classrooms for teacher’s on special occasions such as staff appreciation luncheon during Catholic Schools Appreciation week.  Time commitment varies depending on the time of year, but is generally no more than a few hours.

FALL FUNDRAISER
Chairpersons: Ways and Means Committee Members

This fundraiser begins during the second week of school and runs for approximately three weeks.  Students sell from a gift catalog along with sales of cookie dough and local coupon books. Time commitment would be a few hours during delivery of items.

BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION
Chairperson:  Stephanie Nutter (nutter05@netzero.net)
Box Tops for Education is an easy way for our parents to help our school earn money.  Box Tops are collected in the school office throughout the year, cut to the appropriate size, bundled in groups of 50, and mailed twice a year to receive payment for them.  Time commitment is a few hours for the cutting and bundling of Box Tops.

LABELS FOR EDUCATION
Chairperson:  Amanda Thompson (amt@morrisplayer.com)
Labels for Education rewards schools with free educational equipment in exchange for proof of purchases from Campbell’s products.  Labels for Education are collected in the school office throughout the year, cut to size and bundled for mailing throughout the year.  Our school receives points that are used to order art supplies, books, musical instruments, sports equipment, and audio/visual equipment.  Time commitment is a few hours for the cutting and mailing of labels.

RECYCLING
Chairperson:  Wendy Gerhard (wgerhard@ssmartyr.org)

FIELD DAY
Chairperson: PTO President(s) with help from Vice President(s)
The chairperson(s) secures the inflatable rides and coordinates the festivities of this day long event.  Many volunteers are needed to help at each station and supervising students as they move among the various activities.  Time commitment is a three hour shift in the morning, afternoon or both!

CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK

This is a week-long event that each day celebrates a different area of our school. Daily gifts are distributed to students, teachers and staff.  Volunteers may be needed to help distribute these gifts and to watch classrooms for teachers to participate in their special thanks activities.  Time commitment could be as little as 30 minutes to a few hours.

Chairperson: Terry Steinmetz (636-5730)

This is a program where families can order specialty packaged food items.  SSM does receive a portion of the total sales.  Market Day items are delivered on the first or second Wednesday of each month during the school year.  Volunteers can help on delivery night.  Time commitment varies.

CHURCH PICNIC

Chairperson: PTO President(s) with help from Vice President(s)
PTO sponsors the cake booth at our annual parish picnic by coordinating volunteers for both nights and by soliciting the student body and parish to bake cakes.  This is a very busy booth and requires a time commitment of several hours once a year.  Volunteers are always welcome to work the booth or to bake cakes.
