It is my pleasure to wear several hats at Saint Stephen Martyr School. I am Assistant Principal, Special Needs Coordinator and I teach religion to the eighth grade.
As Assistant Principal I assist the principal, Mrs. Bowen, where she determines a need, I assist staff in implementing 504 support approaches, and I interface with parents, especially those whose children have a learning concern. I help introduce and assist new families to the school and coordinate resources with the counselor when a child or family needs our help. I also mentor the Peer Tutoring Program provided by the eighth grade class.
As Special Needs Coordinator, it is my job to assist and support students who are defined as having special needs, either because they are gifted and talented or because they possss a learning difference. Under gifted and talented are both those with high intellectual abilities and those who are talented in a special field. These students need additional challenges and enrichment. Other students with special needs include those who have specific learning problems such as inattention, reading and speech/language concerns, students who need extra time learning, and those who have different learning styles. Saint Stephen's strongly supports creating special support systems for all our students.
As eight grade religion teacher I prepare candidates to receive the sacrament of Confirmation, teach about the life of Jesus as revealed in the New Testament and train the students to make wise and thoughtful life choices through our Life Skills Program.
