(KA) KINDERGARTEN NOTES
Well, this year has begun. The kinders are very excited learners. We have been working hard already and will continue to do so. We are partners this year both wanting only the best for your child. I do know your child is precious to you, to me and to the God who gifted us with them.
I know they won't all be totally new to the space here at SSM since I know you take them to Sun. liturgy and they see some familiar faces. It is always so wonderful when they come to school and Fr. Randy knows them by name and sight because of their Sun. participation at liturgy. But I also know that some of you are from different parishes and perhaps faiths but I know you too have had your child participating in their parish programs.
We have a brand new math series this year so you and I will be learning together. We have been working on sorting skills. Practice working on sorting using one attribute and then work up to more than one. On the back of the math pages you will notice there is an icon in the lower right hand column. This always gives ideas for ways you can practice at home.
Our reading series is excellent and provides the students with some great skills to help them become independent readers. We do work with students who do not know their alphabet but the presumption is that most students do know them pretty well by the time they start kindergarten. We have been working on characters and settings. When you read at home you can ask your child to name the characters of the story and tell where the story is happening. This is good homework also.
Our new word list begins: I am red God mom cat dog mom Next week we will learn the little
Please take the time to search for the article the Courier-Journal had in the paper recently that listed elements that will help you know what children should know when they come to kindergarten. Basic information like addresses and phone numbers plus tying schools are important readiness skills. They are also important life skills that protect your child.
The schedule for related arts classes this year are as follows: Mon. 9:40 Library and 12:10 Music Class,
Tues. 12:10 Spanish Class, Wed. 2:40 Art Class,
Thurs. 2:40 Computer Class and Fri. 12:10 P.E. Class.
On Fridays they wear their P.E. clothes and they must have gym shoes on that day as well.
