Spelling test and vocabulary test will be this Friday, May 11th.

 

Spelling words have vowel sounds as in the words tooth and cook.

 

oo(tooth) – school     goose     noodle     balloon     bamboo     soothe

 

ue – true     glue     Tuesday

 

ew – few     chew     mildew     renewal

 

oo(cook) – cookie     boomark      barefoot

 

ui – fruit     suit

 

u – cushion     bushel

 

Vocabulary words as used in context in story.

 

1.     crown – a head covering of precious metal worn by a royal person, such as a queen or king

 

2.     liberty – freedom

 

3.     models – small copies of something

 

4.     symbol – an object, diagram, icon, and so on, that stands for or represents something else

 

5.     tablet – a small, flat surface with something written on it

 

6.     torch – a long stick with material that burns at one end of it

 

7.     unforgettable – so good or so wonderful that you cannot forget it

 

8.     unveiled – removed a veil from; uncovered; revealed

 

9.     pedestal – a base on which a column or a statue stands

 

10.     riveted – fastened something with metal bolts

 

11.     sculptor – an artist who makes things by cutting or shaping them

 

Please Note:  The students will be spelling their words in cursive for their test this week.  They have been told that and we are practicing in the classroom.  I suggested to them that they also practice at home.



About Mrs. Robben

Mrs. Robben has been at St. Stephen Martyr for over 25 years.  She has taught both second and first grades at different times.

Mrs. Robben has been married to Mr. Bert Robben for 43 years and they have two daughters, two sons-in-law and 5 grandchildren, all of whom are beautiful and healthy!  Bert's family was one of the founding families at St. Stephen Martyr and he is a proud graduate.  Both of their daughters, Monicajean and Jennifer also graduated from St. Stephen Martyr.

Mrs. Robben graduated from the University of Louisville with a B.A. in Education and is working on her Master's degree at Bellarmine. 

Mrs. Robben loves her job and is always excited every day when she gets up to go to school.
