St. Stephen Martyr Shaping Spirits and Minds thru:
Faith Formation Personal Integrity Stewardship and Service Partnership with Parents and Community and Academic Excellence

OUR MISSION As a Catholic school, St. Stephen Martyr, in partnership with parents and guardians, is called to nurture our students under the guidance of Christ's teaching; to encourage and educate moral, independent citizens who are God's face and hands in service to the world community.
Responding to the Church's call to continue the teaching ministry of Jesus Christ, St. Stephen Martyr School strives to prepare students to be educated, responsible members of the community who are also active stewards of the faith. To this end, St. Stephen Martyr School...
+ honors and protect the self esteem and integrity of each child by encouraging respect and acceptance within the the school environment
+ provides students with a quality academic program that prepare them for the future, and
+ deepens the spirituality of the student body through worship, religious formation, and the daily living of Catholic values.
ABOUT OUR SCHOOL
St. Stephen Martyr uses the Archdiocesan Curriculum Guidelines as a guide to planning programs and assessments. The Archdiocese also requires the use of Language Arts and Math Portfolios. A portfolio is a purposeful selection of student work that exhibits a student's effort and achievements over time.
St. Stephen Martyr is a collaborative model school. Our teachers and staff are committed to working with students with special needs in consultation with the Office of Lifelong Formations and Education. Our instructional program is designed to meet the needs of children with mild disabilities. Children who have severe learning disabilities may require alternate placement in a different school.
St. Stephen Martyr also tries to reach the needs of the gifted by way of workshops offered in Region VI and adaptations made to the regular curriculum. The schools in Region VI combine their resources to offer special workshops in the spring to students who score well on standardized tests. Students attend a series of workshops, usually of their choice, during the regular school day. These workshops are designed to challenge their gifts. We also participate in the John Hopkins Talent search with our younger students and the Duke University Talent Identification programs for our 7th grade students. We are constantly striving to find outlets for our gifted students.
We also offer our students a Family Life program, an AIDS Education program, Peer Mediation programs, the Peace Keepers program and a Life Skills program for our upper grades. Other activities include: Quick Recall, Spelling Bee, Social Studies Fair, Science Expo, World Expo (Social Studies), 4-H, Drama Club, Children's Choir, Art, Spanish, Physical Education, Computer Classes, Algebra 1, Make a Difference Project and a Sock Hop (6th grade interdisciplinary unit on the 50's and 60's).
