How to Support Your Child’s Achievement in School

  •  Tell your child what you expect in terms of good behavior in school.
  • Discuss homework routines with your child.
  • Know what impacts your child emotionally and socially.
  • Be a partner with your child’s teachers.
  • Be certain your child sees you writing and reading.
  • Help your child problem-solve and plan ahead.
  • Provide a regular conversation time—perhaps mealtime—when everyone in the family can practice polite listening and taking turns.
  • Make up stories, songs and games with your children.
  • Show you are really listening, giving your child full attention.
  • Practice reading, math and writing skills with your child in your daily routine: cooking, shopping, planning activities, or doing other daily work.
  • Get library cards (if you don’t have them already). Take regular trips to the library.
  • Ask teachers and/or librarians for recommended reading lists.

Make the "5 finger prayer' a part of your life!

1. Your thumb is nearest you. So begin your prayers by praying for those closest to you. They are the easiest to remember. To pray for our loved ones is, as C. S. Lewis once said, a 'sweet duty.'

2 The next finger is the pointing finger. Pray for those who teach, instruct and heal. This includes teachers, doctors, and ministers. They need support and wisdom in pointing others in the right direction. Keep them in your prayers.

3. The next finger
is the tallest finger. It reminds us of our leaders. Pray for the president, leaders in business and industry, and administrators. These people shape our nation and guide public opinion. They need God's guidance.

4. The
fourth finger is our ring finger. Surprising to many is the fact that this is our weakest finger, as any piano teacher will testify. It should remind us to pray for those who are weak, in trouble or in pain. They need your prayers day and night. You cannot pray too much for them.

5. And lastly comes our little finger - the smallest finger of all which is where we should place ourselves in relation to God and others. As the Bible says, 'The least shall be the greatest among you.' Your pinkie should remind you to pray for yourself. By the time you have prayed for the other four groups, your own needs will be put into proper perspective and you will be able to pray for yourself more effectively.

things to remember........

If your child gets a missing slip, now called MAN slip,  for homework; it's important that you sign it and return it the next day with the assignment!!

READING-   We have started Sign of the Beaver, by Elizabeth George Speare !  4B Quiz tomorrow for chps. 1-4.

Quick & Easy Reading Tips

1.      Keep books nearby. Keep books in commonly used areas of your home, such as the family room, the kitchen, bathrooms and bedrooms. And, don’t forget the car.

2.      Experiment, make it fun. Try something new—tape record your child reading his or her favorite book and then play it back. Children love to hear themselves, and it is a great way to learn.

3.      Discover the library. Make an adventure out of going to your local library. Get your child his or her own library card and explore the children’s section.

4.      Reward with books. Use books as rewards for good behavior. Ask family members to give your child books for gifts, instead of the usual toys, candy, money, etc.
