School Advisory Council (S.A.C.) Purpose
The Catholic school is an expression of the education mission of the parish with which it is associated and of the Archdiocese. Therefore, the pastor is responsible to the bishop for the administration of the total parish, including the parish school. The principal functions as the chief administrator of the school and is a member of the parish staff. Regular and open communication between the pastor and principal is essential.
Just as the parish council serves with the pastor on behalf of the total parish community, so the parish school advisory council serves with the principal for the good of the school community. Today’s Catholic principal, with the many demands which are made, needs assistance from a group people who are committed to the Catholic school and are willing to work for the good of the school and parish.
Our Goal
The Council is a consultative body, and serves as a policy review and development committee for the Parish School. It’s purpose is to work closely and in support of the Principal and Pastor in the education of our children and to make appropriate recommendations. The School Advisory Council is subject to the policies and regulations of the Archdiocesan Office of Education.
The SAC
The School Advisory Council consists of nine (9) selected voting members, the Pastor, Principal, Faculty Representative, and a member of the PTO. Three new members are selected each year for a three year term. Any person who is a registered member of the Parish, a non-Catholic spouse of a registered member, not an employee of SSM and at least eighteen years of age are eligible to hold office as a voting member.

Meeting Times
SAC meetings are generally held on the first Thursday of the month, but the meeting times are moved at times to accommodate board members schedules and to avoid conflict with other meetings or events. So, if you plan to attend, please check with a council member to be certain of a meeting date and time. The meetings are open to visitors. Please contact the chairperson one week in advance of the meeting you wish to attend or have an item for the agenda. Every effort will be made to accommodate your request. Some meetings are closed to visitors when sensitive issues are to be discussed. Visitors may be asked to be excused during that portion of the meeting.
The members of SSM School Advisory Council are always eager to get input from the parish community. Please contact anyone on the Council if you have questions about the SAC or the school itself, e-mail us at school@ssmartyr.org.
